East Colfax BRT Celebrates Final Arch Lift at Uinta Street Following Bus-Only Operations Launch on Broadway
Community Gathers on October 5 for Final Station Arch Lift at Uinta Street
DENVER, Colorado — Commemorating a visible architectural milestone along the Mile High City’s most historic thoroughfare, the City and County of Denver and the Regional Transportation District (RTD) hosted a community viewing event on Monday, October 5, 2026, to witness the ceremonial final arch lift for the East Colfax Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) station canopy at Uinta Street. The iconic steel arches anchor the modern, sheltered center-running platforms designed for the future Lynx BRT line.
Project engineers highlighted that completing structural canopies along the eastern segment paves the way for ticket vending kiosk installation, real-time LED train and bus tracking displays, and overhead electrical cabling as construction pushes toward full corridor completion into Aurora by late 2027.
Bus-Only Lane Operations Deliver Faster Trips Between Broadway and Colorado Boulevard
The milestone builds on the successful rollout of Bus-Only Lane Operations (BOLO) on RTD Routes 15 and 15L, which officially began operating in brand-new dedicated center transit lanes between Broadway and Colorado Boulevard. Equipped with near-level boarding, enhanced security lighting, and dedicated bike storage onboard, the rapid buses bypass congested arterial traffic, already delivering demonstrable reductions in commuter travel times.
To support local commercial vitality during ongoing work, the city implemented two-hour time-limited parking zones along adjacent side streets, ensuring neighborhood shoppers and restaurant patrons maintain convenient curbside access.
DRCOG Evaluates 'Colfax BRT Next' as Santa Fe Yards Sports District Moves Forward
Looking toward regional transit expansion, the Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG) advanced community input on the 'Colfax BRT Next' study, exploring high-frequency transit extensions further east and west. Simultaneously, private developers broke ground on the 13,000-seat professional stadium at Santa Fe Yards, which will house Denver Summit FC alongside transit-adjacent mixed-income apartments.
Denver municipal leaders stressed that coupling rapid transit corridors with thriving sports and residential districts establishes a walkable, world-class city for generations to come.
