Austin-Bergstrom International Airport Breaks Ground on Six-Gate Concourse M as City Deploys CTXGO Commuter Platform
Austin-Bergstrom Airport Breaks Ground on 37,000-Square-Foot Concourse M
AUSTIN, Texas — Expanding air passenger capacity to meet exponential regional population growth across Central Texas, officials at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) broke ground in late September 2026 on Concourse M, a brand-new six-gate passenger concourse. The $90 million interim facility represents a critical milestone within the multibillion-dollar 'Journey With AUS' expansion program, designed to maintain vital aircraft gate capacity as construction accelerates on the future 26-gate Concourse B and subterranean connector tunnel.
Encompassing approximately 37,000 square feet, Concourse M is scheduled to welcome airline passengers in 2028. Travelers will access the modern, climate-controlled boarding facility via zero-emission shuttle buses operating directly from Gate 13 of the primary Barbara Jordan Terminal. The facility follows the successful February 2026 commissioning of the 75,000-square-foot West Infill expansion, which expanded TSA Checkpoint 3 from two to six high-throughput security screening lanes.
Regional Launch of CTXGO Real-Time Mobility and Construction Platform
In tandem with aviation infrastructure milestones, CapMetro, the City of Austin, and regional transportation agencies officially deployed CTXGO on October 1, 2026. The centralized digital platform and mobile application establish a comprehensive, real-time clearinghouse for regional commuters, integrating live road construction closures, active lane detours, and multi-modal transit routing spanning bus, rail, driving, and active cycling corridors.
Transportation coordinators emphasized that CTXGO provides frontline visibility into traffic shifts surrounding the ongoing multi-story Yellow Garage construction at AUS, scheduled for completion in early 2027, as well as utility preparatory corridors associated with the light rail expansion under Project Connect.
Project Connect Environmental Milestones and Affordable Housing Rules
Transit momentum in the Texas capital follows federal environmental clearance for Austin Light Rail Phase 1, positioning the Austin Transit Partnership to secure competitive federal capital investment grants. Concurrently, City Council rules took effect October 1 requiring developers utilizing transit density bonuses within a half-mile of light rail alignments to include on-site income-restricted affordable homes, permanently eliminating cash fees-in-lieu.
Civic and transportation leaders praised the coordinated execution of aviation, mass transit, and commuter technology, noting that Austin is establishing a durable foundation to support sustainable metropolitan mobility for decades to come.
