Rigorous Dynamic Testing Commences on Western Sydney Airport Corridor

SYDNEY, New South Wales — Australia's largest public transport infrastructure program has marked another defining milestone as Sydney Metro and the New South Wales Government commence intensive dynamic testing on the 23-kilometre Sydney Metro Western Sydney Airport line. Following the successful excavation of 9.8 kilometres of twin subterranean tunnels and the completion of major tracklaying, engineering crews have officially unveiled the first custom-built driverless metro trainsets at the Orchard Hills Stabling and Maintenance Facility.

The advanced testing program is evaluating traction power, automated communication systems, braking profiles, and full-height platform screen doors along completed sections of the turn-up-and-go rail alignment ahead of commercial operations.

Six Modern Stations Connecting St Marys to Bradfield City Centre

The dedicated automated rail line will link the major rail junction at St Marys directly to the upcoming Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport and the brand-new Bradfield City Centre across six purpose-built stations: St Marys, Orchard Hills, Luddenham, Airport Business Park, Airport Terminal, and Bradfield.

With rapid interchange to Sydney's heavy rail T1 Western Line at St Marys, passengers and airport workers will travel seamlessly between the airport, western suburban centers, and the Sydney Central Business District without encountering freeway delays along the congested M4 and M7 corridors.

Economic Engine for Western Parkland City

The Metro line serves as the crucial economic spine for New South Wales' emerging Western Parkland City. By facilitating rapid transit across agricultural and greenfield innovation corridors, the project directly anchors major aerospace, high-tech manufacturing, and logistics hubs surrounding the 24/7 curfew-free international airport.

Urban development authority Bradfield Development Authority is actively building out the civic infrastructure of Bradfield, designated as Australia's newest city and an international hub for advanced engineering and aerospace enterprise.

100% Zero-Emission Powered Rail Infrastructure

In alignment with NSW net-zero commitments, all passenger journeys on the Western Sydney Airport line will be 100% powered by renewable energy. The automated rolling stock features advanced regenerative braking that captures kinetic deceleration energy to power onboard climate control and lighting systems. State transport officials emphasized that the automated railway sets a new benchmark for world-class transport, ensuring Western Sydney grows with sustainable, high-frequency mass transit from day one.
