Lucas Museum of Narrative Art Celebrates Grand Opening in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES, California — The long-anticipated Lucas Museum of Narrative Art officially held its ribbon-cutting and public opening in Exposition Park, inaugurating a landmark visual storytelling institution in South Los Angeles.

Designed by renowned architect Ma Yansong of MAD Architects, the striking 300,000-square-foot facility features an organic, aerodynamic silhouette surrounded by 11 acres of newly landscaped public parkland and native botanical gardens. The project represents a major philanthropic investment funded by filmmaker George Lucas and Mellody Hobson.

The museum's permanent collection encompasses thousands of works detailing the history and cultural significance of narrative art, spanning classic illustration, comic strip masterworks, cinema design, documentary photography, and digital animation. Notable galleries display original works by Norman Rockwell, N.C. Wyeth, and Jacob Lawrence, alongside detailed storyboards and miniature models documenting groundbreaking cinematic history.

In addition to extensive exhibition spaces, the campus houses two state-of-the-art cinematic screening theaters, public art classrooms, digital creative laboratories, a research library, and an open-access public plaza linking directly to the existing cultural corridor beside the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County and the California Science Center.

Civic officials noted that the facility's opening marks a vital cultural and economic addition to Los Angeles, generating long-term educational programming partnerships with local school districts and attracting museum patrons and architectural travelers worldwide.
