San Antonio Apartment Fire Damages Four Units, Forces Six Evacuations

Fire crews contain blaze at Northeast Side apartment complex

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — A fire at a Northeast Side apartment complex Sunday evening damaged four units and forced at least six people to evacuate from the property in the 14900 block of Nacogdoches Road, according to the San Antonio Fire Department.

The San Antonio apartment fire was reported at about 6:30 p.m. Sunday. Assistant Fire Chief Wesley West said flames engulfed four apartments before firefighters brought the blaze under control. More than a dozen SAFD first responders were involved in the response, he said.

The affected apartments sustained significant fire damage. West said the fire was believed to have started on the building's second floor, though the cause had not been determined at the time of the report.

Residents evacuated; no injuries reported

Six people were evacuated as firefighters worked at the complex, West said. No injuries were reported among those residents, and SAFD did not report injuries to firefighters.

Apartment fires can quickly affect multiple households because units share walls, floors, ceilings and utility systems. In this case, the reported damage to four units means residents may face disruptions beyond the initial evacuation while the property is assessed and any necessary repairs are completed.

Authorities did not release details about the occupants of the damaged units, whether residents would be able to return to their apartments, or the estimated cost of the damage. SAFD also did not identify the apartment complex by name.

Cause remains under review

West said investigators had not yet established what ignited the fire. The preliminary belief that it began on the second floor does not establish a cause, and no information was released about whether the blaze may have involved electrical equipment, cooking, smoking materials or another source.

The fire department's investigation is ongoing. Officials had reported no injuries as of the latest update, while the cause of the San Antonio apartment fire and the full extent of the property damage remained under review.
