Two U.S. Army soldiers tragically lost their lives in a helicopter crash that occurred Wednesday afternoon in a field near Salado, Texas. Identities of the Fallen Soldiers Revealed

The Army has identified the deceased as Chief Warrant Officer 2 Deontre T. Huey, 34, of Killeen, Texas, and Warrant Officer Seth L. Olmstead, 25, from Belton, Texas. Chief Warrant Officer Huey enlisted in the Army in February 2014, serving as a motor transport operator before being assigned to Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 227th Aviation Regiment, 1st Air Cavalry Brigade in February 2022. Warrant Officer Olmstead joined as a candidate in January 2023 and was part of the same unit since October 2025.

Fire Response and Aftermath

The crash ignited a grass fire that expanded to approximately 155 acres, prompting concerns for five homes and nine outbuildings in the vicinity, as confirmed by the sheriff’s office. Fortunately, all but one outbuilding were saved from the flames. Fire officials reported that the blaze has been fully contained, with expectations to declare it 100% controlled by Sunday evening, depending on weather conditions.
