Fast-Moving Old Trails Fire Forces Evacuations in Spokane, Washington

A rapidly spreading wildfire known as the Old Trails Fire in northwest Spokane, Washington, has prompted the evacuation of thousands of residents as it advanced significantly on Saturday afternoon. The fire ignited around noon, fueled by strong winds and high temperatures, rapidly expanding from its starting point of brush and grass into nearby residential areas.

Eyewitness reports indicate that bright orange and red flames could be seen from the highway, with cars lined up as families evacuated their homes. The fire's extensive reach burned nearly 4 square miles (10 square kilometers) by evening, according to Courtney James, spokesperson for the Washington State Department of Natural Resources.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the Old Trails Fire, which has already resulted in the loss of some structures, though officials have not provided an exact count.
