Turkish Man Arrested in UK for Conspiracy to Support Hamas

NEW YORK -- A Turkish man has been arrested in the United Kingdom on charges of conspiring to provide material support to Hamas, officials announced Friday. Mohammad Yousef Hasna, 45, from Istanbul, was detained after U.S. prosecutors accused him of orchestrating a scheme to funnel money and supplies to the militant organization disguised as a humanitarian effort.

According to U.S. Attorney Jamie McDonald in Manhattan, Hasna has been linked to senior Hamas leadership and allegedly collaborated with Ghazi Hamad, a prominent member of Hamas' governing body, to deliver aid that truly served to bolster the organization's capabilities. The conspiracy reportedly dates back to at least 2023.

The United States government has classified Hamas as a foreign terrorist organization, and the charges against Hasna include conspiring to provide material support, conspiring to finance terrorism, and financing terrorism, each of which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison.
