5-Year-Old Drowns at Port Aransas Beach; Investigation Underway

PORT ARANSAS, Texas – A 5-year-old child drowned at a beach in Port Aransas on Wednesday, as confirmed by the city’s police department. Authorities responded to Beach Marker 46 around 5:35 p.m. after reports indicated that a child had been pulled from the water and was unresponsive.

A game warden from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department initiated CPR on the child before police arrived. The child was subsequently transported to a local hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

According to police, the child's grandparents lost sight of the child while preparing to leave the beach, and the child was later discovered in the water. Chief James Stokes emphasized the importance of constant supervision around water, stating that young children can quickly disappear from sight.

The drowning incident is currently under investigation in collaboration with the Nueces County Medical Examiner. The Port Aransas Police Department is urging beachgoers to adhere to water safety guidelines, including maintaining close supervision of young children and ensuring they wear properly fitted life jackets.
