Former Seattle U.S. Attorney Roger Rogoff Sues Trump Over Unlawful Firing

Roger Rogoff, the former U.S. attorney for the Western District of Washington, has filed a lawsuit against President Trump, claiming his recent firing was unlawful. The lawsuit, submitted to the federal district court in Seattle, seeks to void Rogoff's dismissal and maintain his position until a Senate-confirmed replacement is appointed.

Rogoff argues that his removal violates federal law and the Constitution's Appointments Clause. He received notice of his firing just an hour after being appointed by federal judges in the region. Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, also named in the lawsuit, stated that Trump fired Rogoff due to a lack of consultation with the administration.

The Western District of Washington has been without a Senate-confirmed U.S. attorney since mid-2023, following the dismissal of Tessa Gorman. Currently, Charles Neil Floyd serves as the acting U.S. attorney. Rogoff's lawsuit marks a significant challenge, as he is the first ousted U.S. attorney to contest a presidential firing in this manner.
