South Texas Communities Begin Recovery Efforts After Flooding

Families in South Texas are starting the recovery process following significant flooding from the Leona River and Rio Grande. In Batesville, residents sought refuge at the Zavala County Nutrition Center, where volunteers provided essential supplies. Community advocate Mike Mendez coordinated relief efforts, delivering food, water, and hygiene products to those affected. H-E-B contributed five pallets of water to support these initiatives.

In Eagle Pass, the Rio Grande reached 19.7 feet, with emergency officials noting that the immediate flood threat had eased as waters began to recede. At the peak of the flooding, over 100 floating buoys, initially installed as a border barrier, drifted downstream, leading to the temporary closure of two international bridges. Local volunteers and emergency officials are expected to continue assessing the needs of residents as recovery efforts progress.
