ICE Officer Involved in Fatal Shooting Had History of Violence and Mental Health Issues
David Brouillette, a 37-year-old Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer, shot and killed 25-year-old Colombian national Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero on Monday in Biddeford, Maine. Relatives of Brouillette have raised concerns about his violent behavior and mental health history, stating he has struggled with serious issues since childhood. They allege he has a history of attacking women and has been diagnosed with severe bipolar disorder and attention deficit disorder.
Following the shooting, Brouillette reportedly told family members he acted in self-defense, claiming Durán Guerrero attempted to run him over with a vehicle. The Department of Homeland Security has not confirmed Brouillette's identity but stated that an officer discharged his weapon fearing for public safety. Relatives, including his ex-wife Ashley Brouillette, expressed disbelief over his continued employment in law enforcement roles, citing his past violent behavior and mental health struggles. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
