Truck Fire on I-5 Near Castaic Causes Lane Closures and Evacuation Warning
A semitruck caught fire on Interstate 5 north of Castaic on Monday, igniting a brush fire and leading to significant traffic disruptions during rush hour. Fire crews from the Angeles National Forest responded to the incident, known as the Martin fire, around 4:15 p.m. near Templin Highway.
As a result of the fire, several northbound lanes of I-5 were closed, causing delays of over two hours, according to the California Highway Patrol. An evacuation warning was issued for the 133 homes at the Paradise Ranch Estates Mobile Home Park, with firetrucks staged at the site as a precaution. By 6:20 p.m., the fire was 46% contained, allowing some aerial resources to be released. The evacuation warning was lifted by 7 p.m., and one additional lane on the highway was reopened as crews continued to combat the blaze.
