Fresno County K-9 Dies After Being Struck in Hit-and-Run Incident
A Fresno County sheriff’s deputy is mourning the loss of his K-9 partner, Santi, a 5-year-old Belgian Malinois, who was struck by a vehicle after being startled by fireworks on Saturday night. The incident occurred when the off-duty deputy let Santi out into the yard, where an aerial mortar exploded nearby, causing the dog to run off.
The deputy chased after Santi, but the continued sound of fireworks prevented the dog from returning. Santi was later found injured at the intersection of Shaw and Helm avenues in Clovis. He was taken to a local hospital but unfortunately died from his injuries. The Clovis Police Department is investigating the hit-and-run accident and encourages anyone with information to contact them at (559) 324-2800.
