Illinois Governor Signs Over 60 New Laws Including Rental Fee Transparency and Driver Safety Measures
Illinois Governor JB Pritzker has signed more than 60 bills into law since Friday, introducing significant changes in various sectors. Among the new laws is a measure aimed at increasing transparency in rental agreements by prohibiting landlords from imposing certain fees, effective January 1. This law caps application and background check fees at $50 and mandates that landlords list all nonoptional fees on the lease's first page.
Another notable law establishes a statewide Blue Envelope Program for individuals on the autism spectrum, allowing them to communicate their needs to police officers. This program is also set to take effect on January 1.
Additionally, a new law gives public utility customers the right to request public forums to discuss rate hikes, enhancing their ability to participate in the Illinois Commerce Commission's processes. This law will also take effect on January 1.
Other bills signed include provisions for ingredient labeling on diaper packaging, expanded access to in-state tuition for certain students, and coverage for hormone therapy prescriptions by insurance providers. These laws reflect a broad effort to address various community needs and enhance consumer protections across Illinois.
