Uptown Shooting Leaves One Man Dead and Suspect Critically Injured After Police Confrontation

A 63-year-old man was shot and killed, and a suspect was hospitalized in critical condition after being shot by Chicago police officers in the city's Uptown neighborhood on Monday night. The incident began just before 8:30 p.m. near the intersection of Clark and Ainslie streets.

According to Chicago police, the 63-year-old victim got into an argument with a man he knew near St. Boniface Cemetery. During the confrontation, the suspect drew a firearm and shot the victim multiple times, fatally wounding him. The suspect then fled north on Clark Street on foot, with officers initiating a chase.

Police reported that the foot chase led officers to the 1400 block of West Argyle Street. During the pursuit, the suspect turned toward the officers and raised a gun, prompting police to open fire. The suspect was struck and transported to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, where he remained in critical condition as of early Tuesday morning.

Officers recovered a weapon from the suspect at the scene. Three Chicago police officers were also transported to a local hospital for observation and are expected to recover. The Civilian Office of Police Accountability is currently investigating the shooting. Police have not yet released the identities of the victim or the suspect.
