Motorcyclist Killed in North Phoenix Crash; Police Officer Injured in Secondary Collision

A motorcyclist died and another driver was injured following a multi-vehicle collision in north Phoenix on Sunday evening. The incident, which occurred on Bell Road west of 16th Street, later resulted in a secondary crash where a police officer's vehicle was struck by an allegedly impaired driver.

Phoenix police officers responded to the initial crash scene at approximately 5:30 p.m. Investigators believe a male motorcyclist was traveling westbound on Bell Road at a high rate of speed when he collided with a car attempting to make a left turn. The force of the collision pushed the vehicles into a third vehicle that was stopped at a traffic light.

The motorcyclist was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the car making the left turn was also hospitalized with injuries that police described as non-life-threatening.

At approximately 9:15 p.m., while officers were still investigating the fatal collision and managing traffic control, another vehicle struck a police patrol car. The officer inside was taken to the hospital for precautionary reasons. According to police, the driver of the vehicle that hit the patrol car exhibited signs of impairment and was arrested at the scene.
