Improper Turn Suspected in Fatal West Phoenix Crash Involving Semitruck and Van
A man has died following a Monday morning collision involving a van and a semitruck at an intersection in west Phoenix. First responders were dispatched to the scene of the crash at approximately 6 a.m., according to the Phoenix Police Department.
Upon arrival, police officers located the driver of the van, who was unresponsive. Paramedics transported the man to a nearby hospital, where he was subsequently pronounced dead. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased driver. The driver of the semitruck was also transported to a hospital as a precautionary measure.
The collision left a white van with extensive front-end damage and a red semitruck disabled in the middle of the intersection with visible damage to its cab. Phoenix Police Sgt. Chris Berrelleza stated that investigators believe the van's driver made an improper turn, which led to the fatal crash.
Following the incident, authorities closed the intersection in all directions to allow investigators to document the scene. The Phoenix Police Department has advised motorists to avoid the area as the investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
