Top Gun: Maverick Actor James Handy Fatally Stabbed in Tarzana; Suspect Charged with Murder

An 81-year-old veteran actor, James Handy , was fatally stabbed on Wednesday in the Tarzana neighborhood of Los Angeles, according to police. Handy, known for his roles in films such as "Top Gun: Maverick," "The Rocketeer," and "Jumanji," was found by responding officers in the front yard of a residence suffering from a stab wound to the chest. He was transported to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The Los Angeles Police Department arrested 44-year-old Michael Gledhill, the son of Handy's girlfriend, on suspicion of murder. Authorities said Gledhill lived with his mother and Handy. According to the LAPD, Gledhill called emergency services, stating, "I am the son of man, I just killed the man of sin," and later flagged down responding officers to identify himself as the suspect.

On Friday, Gledhill was formally charged with murder with special circumstances. The criminal complaint alleges that Gledhill killed Handy with a knife "with malice aforethought." Gledhill did not appear in court for his initial appearance on Friday and is currently being held for a psychiatric evaluation. Police stated that the stabbing was an isolated incident and that the investigation remains ongoing.
