Woman Struck and Killed by SUV on Summer Street in Houston

A woman died Wednesday morning after being struck by an SUV while attempting to cross a street in Houston's Washington Avenue area, according to the Houston Police Department.

Investigators reported that the woman was crossing the roadway in an unmarked crosswalk in the 2400 block of Summer Street when she was hit by a black Chevy Tahoe. Emergency responders transported the woman to an area hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

The driver of the Chevy Tahoe remained at the scene and cooperated with officers. According to police, the driver did not show signs of intoxication and was released after being questioned. The Houston Police Department's investigation into the incident is ongoing.
