Harris County Deputies Arrest Two Men After Finding Stolen Mail and Credit Cards Inside U-Haul

Two men face felony charges after Harris County Precinct 4 deputy constables recovered hundreds of pieces of stolen mail, credit cards, and checks from a U-Haul truck at a local storage facility. Stephan Taltan and Curtis Baily were arrested over the weekend and have both been charged with third-degree felony mail theft.

According to Precinct 4 officials, the incident began last Saturday when an employee at a storage facility along the Northwest Freeway called deputies to report that the suspects refused to leave the property. When deputies arrived, they located the men and searched the U-Haul truck they were using.

Court documents show that deputies recovered 300 pieces of stolen mail, a dozen credit cards issued in various names, and more than 30 stolen checks from inside the vehicle. Investigators have identified a third suspect in connection with the case, but that individual has not yet been arrested.

Taltan and Baily have both appeared in court to face the charges. Precinct 4 officials have not disclosed what prompted the search of the U-Haul, how the mail was stolen, or which neighborhoods the stolen items came from.
