West Virginia Woman Charged With Murder After Daughter's Remains Found Near Summit Lake

A 50-year-old West Virginia woman is facing a first-degree murder charge after the remains of her 26-year-old daughter were discovered in a shallow grave, according to the West Virginia State Police. Staci Wind was arrested by authorities on May 23 at a home located on Riverside Drive in Richwood, West Virginia.

The arrest followed a multi-day search that began when Staci Wind reported her daughter, Ayla Wind , missing to the Richwood Police Department on May 18. Four days after the initial missing person report, state police investigators located Ayla Wind's remains on May 22 in a shallow grave near Summit Lake, which is located in Greenbrier County.

Following her arrest, Staci Wind was transported to the Central Regional Jail. Online jail records indicate that she remains in custody and her bail has been denied.

The West Virginia State Police confirmed that the investigation into the death of the 26-year-old woman is still active. Officials have not yet released any additional details regarding the cause of Ayla Wind's death or the specific evidence that led to the charges against her mother.
