Man Arrested Inside Maricopa County Medical Examiner Facility Faces Burglary and Abuse of Corpse Charges

A man faces multiple felony charges, including sexual conduct with a dead person, following an early morning break-in at the Maricopa County Office of the Medical Examiner. Authorities arrested the suspect, identified as Fenris Lu, inside the facility early Wednesday morning.

According to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a 911 call regarding a possible burglary just after 1:30 a.m. Upon arrival, deputies found that personnel from Maricopa County Security Services and the Phoenix Police Department were already on the scene assisting in securing the building. Deputies searched the facility and located Lu, who was taken into custody on site.

Lu is charged with one count of burglary, four counts of sexual conduct with a dead person, one count of criminal damage, one count of escape, and one count of possession of burglary tools. During his initial court appearance, a judge set Lu's bond at $500,000 cash. Court conditions stipulate that if he posts bond, he will be required to wear an ankle monitor.

Sheriff's office detectives are continuing to investigate the incident to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the break-in.
