Speed and Impairment Suspected in Fatal North Phoenix Collision
A 22-year-old man died and an 18-year-old driver was seriously injured following a two-vehicle collision in north Phoenix early Sunday morning. The crash occurred just before 2 a.m. on Bell Road , resulting in a temporary closure of the roadway as emergency crews and investigators processed the scene.
According to Phoenix police, the 18-year-old was driving an SUV westbound when he collided with a sedan traveling south through the intersection. First responders pronounced the 22-year-old driver of the sedan dead at the scene. The 18-year-old was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries, though officials confirmed he is expected to survive.
Preliminary findings from investigators suggest that speed and impairment were contributing factors in the crash. Officers arriving at the site reported finding both vehicles with heavy damage and a significant field of debris scattered across the roadway. The impact of the collision forced the closure of Bell Road for several hours during the initial response.
Authorities have not yet released the identities of either individual involved in the incident. Police stated that formal charges will be determined once the investigation is complete and all evidence has been reviewed. The current status of the 18-year-old driver remains under medical supervision as the inquiry continues.
