20-Year-Old Man Dies After Vehicle Strikes Tree and Catches Fire in Castroville
A 20-year-old man was killed early Sunday morning after his vehicle crashed into a tree and caught fire in Castroville, according to the Castroville Police Department.
Officers responded just after 3 a.m. to the 800 block of U.S. Highway 90 East following reports of a single-vehicle collision. Police said they had earlier received an alert about a vehicle traveling westbound at a high rate of speed near the Walmart on U.S. Highway 90. Shortly after, Medina County dispatch received a call reporting that a vehicle had struck a tree.
When officers arrived, they found a black Dodge Durango that had collided with a tree and was on fire. The driver, identified by police as Roman Barron, 20, was located inside the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said speed is believed to have contributed to the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
