One Dead, Five Injured in Shooting at Mall of Louisiana; Five Detained, Police Say

At least one person was killed and five others were injured in a shooting at the Mall of Louisiana in Baton Rouge on Thursday, according to Baton Rouge Police Chief Thomas Morse Jr. Police said five individuals are currently in custody, but authorities are continuing to search for others who may have been involved.

The incident, which police said began with an argument between two groups in the mall's food court, resulted in several bystanders being shot. Morse reported that one victim was in surgery and three others sustained minor injuries, while another person had what he described as "very minor" injuries. The identity of the person who died has not been released.

Lafayette Mayor Monique Blanco Boulet stated that three of the victims are seniors at Ascension Episcopal School in Lafayette, located about 50 miles from Baton Rouge. No further details about the victims or their conditions were provided.

Police have declared that the situation is no longer considered an active shooter incident. The FBI's New Orleans field office confirmed its response to the scene. Authorities are urging anyone with information or cellphone video related to the shooting to contact law enforcement as the investigation continues.
