Pilot Critically Injured After Plane Crashes Near Auto Parts Store in Los Angeles

A small aircraft crashed into a parking lot beside an auto parts store in Pacoima, a neighborhood in northern Los Angeles, late Monday morning, leaving the sole pilot in critical condition, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The incident occurred just after 11 a.m. near an O'Reilly Auto Parts location. Authorities reported that a 70-year-old man was piloting the plane when it went down, coming to rest upside down only feet from other parked vehicles. Emergency crews responded quickly, extracting the pilot from the wreckage and transporting him to a local hospital. Officials confirmed that no other passengers or bystanders were injured in the crash.

Fire department officials said the aircraft made contact with high-voltage power lines in the vicinity, prompting emergency personnel to evacuate surrounding businesses and residences as a precaution. Images from the scene showed significant damage to the plane's nose and fuselage.

The crash occurred in a busy commercial area, underscoring ongoing concerns about low-altitude flights over populated neighborhoods in greater Los Angeles. No further details regarding the cause of the crash or the pilot’s flight plan have been released at this time.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash and have not reported any updates on the pilot's condition since his admission to the hospital.
