Skyline Fire in Yucca Valley Destroys Four Structures, Injures Firefighter

A brush fire that ignited Sunday afternoon in Yucca Valley, California destroyed four structures and left one firefighter injured as emergency crews worked to contain the blaze, according to fire officials.

The fire, known as the Skyline fire, started around 2 p.m. in the 52000 block of Skyline Road. Authorities initially expressed concern that the flames could spread to as many as 500 acres due to dry conditions and local terrain. Aerial support was quickly dispatched, including two helicopters and six air tankers, to help ground crews tackle the fire.

Despite initial fears of rapid spread, firefighters halted the fire’s forward movement at 39 acres. However, before containment lines were established, the blaze destroyed four structures. Officials have not disclosed details about the types of buildings affected, but noted that inspection teams and Red Cross personnel were assisting several residents displaced by the incident.

One firefighter sustained injuries during the operation but was treated at the scene and did not require hospitalization, according to updates from the Cal Fire San Bernardino Unit.

By 8:30 p.m. Sunday, Cal Fire reported the blaze was 25% contained and that the threat to additional structures had been mitigated. Crews planned to work overnight to ensure hotspots did not trigger further outbreaks. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and officials have not reported any civilian injuries.
