Three Killed, One Critically Injured in West Garfield Park Shooting
Three people lost their lives and a fourth was left in critical condition after a gunfire incident erupted Friday evening in the West Garfield Park neighborhood of Chicago, according to the Chicago Police Department.
Police reported that the victims were standing on the sidewalk in the 4000 block of West Maypole Avenue at approximately 4:45 p.m. when a vehicle approached. At least two individuals exited the car and began shooting at the group before fleeing the scene.
A 36-year-old man sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead on site. A 32-year-old woman, struck in the head, was transported to Stroger Hospital but did not survive. Another man, whose age has not been determined, died at Mount Sinai Hospital after suffering multiple bullet wounds, police said.
The fourth individual, a 35-year-old man, was also shot multiple times and remains in critical condition at Stroger Hospital.
Shortly after the shooting, police activity centered on a nearby barbershop called Gotcha Faded, with officers moving in and out of the storefront and securing the area. Traffic was disrupted on Pulaski Road between Maypole Avenue and Lake Street as the investigation continued.
Neighbors gathered near the scene, visibly shaken but choosing not to comment. The tragedy adds to the ongoing challenge of gun violence in Chicago neighborhoods.
Area Four Detectives are leading the investigation. No arrests have been announced, and police have not released any information about possible suspects or motives as of Friday night.
