Driver Critically Injured in 105 Freeway Shooting, Major Traffic Disruption in Los Angeles
A driver was critically wounded in a shooting on the 105 Freeway in Los Angeles on Thursday afternoon, leading authorities to close a significant stretch of the busy roadway and causing extensive traffic delays across the area.
According to the California Highway Patrol, officers responded around 1:45 p.m. to reports of a man found unresponsive in a black Toyota Camry. Emergency personnel discovered the driver with a gunshot wound in the carpool lane of the eastbound freeway, just west of Vermont Avenue.
The driver was rushed to a local hospital and remains in critical condition. Investigators noted that the right rear window of the vehicle had been shattered. No firearm was found at the scene, and officials have not released details about the circumstances leading up to the shooting.
Authorities have not yet identified a suspect or a possible suspect vehicle. The incident prompted a full closure of all eastbound lanes of the 105 Freeway in the affected area, leaving drivers stranded for hours and causing traffic congestion to cascade throughout nearby surface streets.
The freeway remained closed as of Thursday evening, with no estimate for reopening provided. The California Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation and urges anyone with information to come forward.
