T.I.’s Son King Harris Arrested After High-Speed Cybertruck Chase

Recently released body camera footage provides new details on the arrest of King Harris, son of rapper T.I., following a high-speed traffic stop in Gwinnett County on April 12. Gwinnett County police disclosed that Harris was pulled over after his camo-wrapped Tesla Cybertruck was recorded traveling at 70 mph in a 45 mph zone near Holcomb Bridge Road and Peachtree Corners Circle. Officers reported reaching speeds of up to 80 mph to catch up with the vehicle.

Body camera video shows a tense exchange between the 21-year-old and law enforcement officers after the stop. Police said they immediately noticed a handgun on the dashboard and an open THC container in the vehicle's center console, prompting officers to order Harris out of the car for safety reasons. Footage reveals Harris questioning the order and referencing his legal rights, while officers cited the Supreme Court decision Pennsylvania v. Mimms to justify their request.

According to police, Harris initially refused multiple requests to exit the vehicle, resulting in warnings that noncompliance could lead to obstruction charges. After a brief stalemate and a phone call to his attorney, Harris left the vehicle as directed. The footage also captures Harris's father, T.I., arriving at the scene to speak with police, with officers explaining the necessity of their safety protocols.

Harris was subsequently arrested and booked early Sunday morning on several charges. Jail records indicate he faces counts including speeding by more than 24 mph over the posted limit, willful obstruction of law enforcement, possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, and a seatbelt violation. During booking, police said they discovered a pill believed to be oxycodone in Harris's possession. Authorities have not confirmed whether Harris has a prescription for the substance or who owns the firearm found in the vehicle.

Harris was released on bond the same day after being booked into jail. He is expected to appear in Gwinnett County court on both traffic and felony drug charges, though a court date has not been announced. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding his arrest continues.
