Gasoline Tanker Ignites After Collision and Downed Power Lines in Fort Worth

A gasoline tanker truck erupted in flames early Sunday morning in Fort Worth, Texas after colliding with another vehicle and bringing down power lines, according to the Fort Worth Fire Department.

The incident occurred near a Valero gas station shortly after 1 a.m. when the 18-wheeler, transporting approximately 9,000 gallons of gasoline, veered off the road following the collision. The truck struck power lines, which subsequently fell and sparked a fire as gasoline began leaking from the tanker, said Fort Worth Fire Department spokesperson Craig Trojacek.

Authorities reported that the truck driver attempted to prevent the gasoline from spreading into the gas station parking lot before the fuel ignited. The driver sustained burns and was transported to a hospital, where his condition was described as critical. No other injuries were reported in connection with the incident.

Firefighters remained at the scene for several hours, working to extinguish the blaze and mitigate the risk of further gasoline leakage. Crews used water to cool the tanker and spread sand to help contain the hazardous spill, according to Trojacek. Fire operations concluded around 7 a.m. Sunday.

Eyewitness Bailey Moss, who was staying nearby, described hearing a loud crash and witnessing rapid fire spread, noting the intense heat radiating from the blaze even at a distance.

Videos from the scene show the front of the tanker truck engulfed in flames with thick smoke billowing upward. The cause of the initial collision is under investigation, and authorities have not announced any charges related to the incident. Fire officials said the tanker driver remains hospitalized as of Sunday morning.
