Tallahassee Memorial Hospital Drops Lawsuit After Longtime Patient Vacates Room

Tallahassee Memorial Hospital in Tallahassee, Florida, has withdrawn its lawsuit against a former patient who remained in a room for months after being discharged, following her departure from the facility. The hospital had sought a court order earlier this month to remove the woman from room 373, alleging that her continued presence was preventing the hospital from serving other patients in need of care.

The patient, whose name was not disclosed, was admitted for medical treatment but was formally discharged on October 6, when physicians determined acute care was no longer required. Despite repeated efforts by hospital staff to coordinate her exit with family members, including offers of transportation, the woman refused to leave the room for an extended period.

The hospital's legal filing noted that staff and resources were being diverted to address the ongoing situation, impacting care for other patients. A hearing on the matter had been scheduled for Monday but was cancelled after the hospital filed a notice of voluntary dismissal with prejudice, confirming the case's closure.

Hospital spokesperson Sarah Cannon confirmed Monday that the patient is "no longer at TMH," and the dispute is officially concluded. The outcome allows the hospital to restore full use of its resources for patient care. There were no reports of injuries or law enforcement involvement related to the eviction effort.
