Disneyland Paris Unveils 'World of Frozen' in Largest-Ever Expansion
Chessy, France – Disneyland Paris officially opened its 'World of Frozen' attraction on Sunday, unveiling a 118-foot ice-topped mountain and an immersive Arendelle-themed land as the centerpiece of a €2 billion ($2.18 billion) transformation at the theme park complex outside Paris.
The opening marked the largest expansion in Disneyland Paris's 34-year history and was attended by celebrities including Penélope Cruz, Naomi Campbell, and Teyana Taylor. The rebranding also sees Walt Disney Studios Park renamed as Disney Adventure World, introducing new attractions, dining experiences, and entertainment across the property.
The event was the first major international showcase for Disney's newly appointed CEO, Josh D’Amaro, who assumed leadership just eleven days prior. D’Amaro, who spent nearly three decades in Disney’s parks division, described the inauguration as “a transformational moment,” emphasizing Disney’s century-long legacy of storytelling.
France’s President Emmanuel Macron visited the resort on Friday, highlighting Disneyland Paris’s significant economic impact. Macron stated the latest expansion will create 1,000 direct jobs and noted that the complex employs more than 20,000 people, supporting approximately 70,000 direct and indirect roles. Since opening in 1992, the resort has welcomed over 445 million visitors and now accounts for over 6% of France’s national tourism revenue.
'World of Frozen' features a Nordic village inspired by European folklore, the Frozen Ever After boat ride, meet-and-greet experiences with Anna and Elsa inside Arendelle Castle, and the new Snow Flower Festival lagoon show. The rebranded park also boasts a new Tangled-themed family attraction, the Regal View Restaurant, and a nightly drone and light spectacle called Disney Cascade of Lights. A Lion King land is under construction as part of ongoing developments.
Disney officials say that by the end of the full transformation, over 90% of Disney Adventure World’s offerings will be redesigned, effectively doubling the park’s footprint. The opening underscores the growing importance of the parks-and-experiences business, which accounted for more than half of Disney’s segment operating income last year.
As festivities continue, Disneyland Paris remains the leading tourist destination in Europe. Further expansion and new experiences are scheduled for the coming years.
