San Antonio traffic crash: West Side neighbor directing traffic struck by fleeing vehicle
San Antonio traffic crash officials say a man who had stepped into the roadway to direct vehicles around an earlier collision was hit by a separate car that fled the scene, in an incident reported as of March 25, 2026. The San Antonio Police Department says the sequence began just after 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Vanley and Esmeralda drives on the city’s West Side.
According to the SAPD, an initial two-vehicle crash occurred at the location and a neighbor in his mid-40s left his home to assist by guiding traffic around the wreck. While helping motorists, the neighbor was struck by a different vehicle that did not stop. No description or identifying information about the striking vehicle was released, and police said details were not immediately available.
The injured man was transported to a hospital for further treatment; his condition has not been disclosed. Both drivers involved in the original two-vehicle collision remained at the scene and were expected to be OK, SAPD said. The department added that the incident remains under investigation and that additional information has not yet been released.
