Jasper VA clinic shooting: Suspect shot, one victim airlifted, police say

As of March 18, 2026, authorities in Jasper, Georgia, said they responded on Tuesday afternoon to a shooting at the town’s VA outpatient clinic. Police arrived at the facility at about 1:30 p.m., located a person identified as the suspected shooter and engaged the individual; the suspect was struck during that confrontation. Municipal officials said one other victim was discovered at the scene and was airlifted to a hospital for treatment.

The city released a brief statement confirming the response and the immediate medical evacuation. Calls to the Pickens County VA clinic were directed to recorded messages and went unanswered during the afternoon. The outpatient site provides primary and specialty care services, including laboratory work, telehealth appointments and mental-health care, according to information posted on the clinic’s official website. Local images showed more than half a dozen law-enforcement officers in tactical vests near a strip-mall location where the clinic is housed.

Jasper, a community of roughly 4,600 residents located about 60 miles north of downtown Atlanta, remains the focus of an active inquiry. Investigators have not released further details on the condition of the injured person or whether additional arrests were made. City officials said the matter is under investigation and that more information will be provided as it becomes available.
