Surveillance Footage Shows Michigan Synagogue Attack Suspect Purchased $2,000 in Fireworks Days Before Ramming

Surveillance video obtained by NBC News has captured the suspect behind the Temple Israel synagogue attack purchasing more than $2,000 worth of fireworks from a Detroit-area store just two days before carrying out the assault.

The suspect, identified as 41-year-old Ayman Mohamad Ghazali, rammed his vehicle into the Michigan synagogue in an attack now being investigated as a possible act of terrorism. Authorities confirmed that Ghazali died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head during a subsequent shootout with security officers at the scene.

The newly obtained surveillance footage adds a significant dimension to the ongoing investigation, raising questions about the suspect's premeditation and planning in the days leading up to the attack. Federal and local law enforcement agencies are continuing to investigate the incident as a potential act of domestic terrorism.
