Man Killed in Late-Night Shooting in Southeast D.C.

A man was shot and killed late Saturday night in the Washington Highlands neighborhood of Southeast Washington, D.C., on February 21, 2026. The incident occurred in the 4400 block of 3rd Street SE, where officers from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Seventh District responded to a report of a shooting at approximately 11:09 p.m.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a man suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. District of Columbia Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel also responded to the location. Despite lifesaving efforts by emergency responders, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police later identified the victim as 40-year-old Travis Fears, of Southeast D.C. Authorities confirmed that the case is being investigated as a homicide and stated that the investigation remains ongoing in the Washington Highlands section of the city.

Police Seek Public’s Help in Ongoing Homicide Investigation

The Metropolitan Police Department has asked members of the public who may have information related to the fatal shooting to contact authorities. Individuals with information are instructed to take no direct action themselves and instead call the police at (202) 727-9099 or send information via text message to the department’s TEXT TIP LINE at 50411.

As part of its standard homicide investigation procedures, the Metropolitan Police Department is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for each homicide committed in the District of Columbia. This reward structure applies to cases such as the shooting death of Travis Fears.

Authorities have not released additional details about possible suspects or circumstances surrounding the shooting. The investigation continues as detectives work to gather evidence and information related to the killing in the Washington Highlands neighborhood.
