Burglary and Police Pursuit Unfold in Los Angeles

On Wednesday morning in Los Angeles, burglary suspects led police on a vehicle chase that ended in a collision at an intersection in the Hyde Park area. The incident began at about 4:30 a.m. when burglars wearing ski masks entered a warehouse on the 1100 block of East 32nd Street and started loading items into a U-Haul truck, according to Los Angeles Police Department Officer Norma Eisenman.

Burglars Flee Warehouse in U-Haul Truck

When officers arrived at the warehouse, the burglars fled the scene in the U-Haul truck. The departure initiated a police pursuit that was broadcast live. Officers followed the truck as it left the area of East 32nd Street.

Suspects Switch to Getaway Car Near Inglewood

Near Randy’s Donuts in Inglewood, the suspects stopped the U-Haul truck and exited the vehicle. They ran to another car that appeared to be a getaway vehicle driven by a separate individual. As police squad cars moved in, the suspects entered the getaway car and drove away. During this maneuver, the getaway car collided with a police SUV.

High-Speed Driving Through City Streets

After leaving the area near Randy’s Donuts, the getaway car continued at freeway speeds on city streets. At certain points in the pursuit, the vehicle traveled without its headlights on and drove in opposing traffic lanes. Police maintained the chase as the vehicle moved through different Los Angeles neighborhoods.

Collision in Hyde Park Ends Pursuit

The pursuit concluded in the Hyde Park neighborhood at the intersection of Arlington Avenue and West 48th Street. The driver of the suspects’ vehicle drove at speed through the intersection and was broadsided by another car. The impact caused the suspects’ vehicle to spin out of control, bringing the chase to an end.

Arrests and Ongoing Search

Following the collision, police took two suspects into custody. As of 9 a.m. Wednesday, a third person remained at large. Video from the scene showed one suspect running toward a house and disappearing from view, which prompted officers to conduct a neighborhood search in the area.
