Freeze Warnings and Arctic Air Bring Hard Freeze Risk to Central Florida
Freeze warnings and cold advisory issued across Central Florida
Freeze warnings have been issued for most of Central Florida as Arctic air moves into the region. The warnings currently exclude Brevard County and Coastal Volusia County. A cold weather advisory is in effect for most of Central Florida until 9 a.m. on Tuesday morning.
On Tuesday morning, Florida is experiencing chilly conditions, with some areas reporting wind chills in the 20s. The advisory and warnings are in place as temperatures remain unusually low for the area.
Current and upcoming temperature conditions
Weather forecasts indicate that conditions will bring colder temperatures on Tuesday night, with lows expected to fall below freezing in some parts of Central Florida. Despite the cold mornings and nights, afternoons in the area are expected to remain sunny, with high temperatures returning to the 60s from Wednesday through Friday.
Later in the week, an incoming storm is expected to push Arctic air further south into Florida. As a result, temperatures in the Orlando metro area are forecast to drop into the 20s this weekend. A weather alert has been issued because a hard freeze is considered likely overnight from Saturday into Sunday, and again from Sunday into Monday.
Guidance for residents during cold weather
Residents are being reminded of the "4 P's": Pets, Plants, Pipes and People, as they prepare for the cold weather. This guidance is intended to help protect pets from low temperatures and ensure that plants are properly shielded from the cold. The reminder also applies to safeguarding exposed pipes and checking on individuals who may be vulnerable to the cold conditions.
These measures are being emphasized as Central Florida faces a period of below-freezing temperatures in some areas, combined with wind chills in the 20s and the potential for a hard freeze over the upcoming weekend.
