FDA Class II Recall Issued for McCafé Decaf K-Cup Pods in Three States
FDA Recall of McCafé Decaf Coffee Pods Announced
The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a recall of more than 80,000 McCafé Premium Roast Decaf Coffee K-Cup Pods distributed by Keurig Dr Pepper in the United States. The recall involves approximately 960 cartons of the product and concerns a potential issue in which coffee labeled as decaffeinated may in fact contain full-caffeine coffee.
Details of the Recalled Product
The product affected by the recall is McCafé Premium Roast Decaf Coffee K-Cup Pods, an at-home McDonald's coffee distributed by Keurig Green Mountain. The recalled pods were sold in 84-count cartons at retailers located in California, Indiana, and Nevada. Consumers can identify the recalled cartons by the best-by date and specific production information printed on the packaging.
The identifying details for the recalled McCafé Premium Roast Decaf Coffee K-Cup Pods include the best-by date code "17 NOV 2026 LA hh:mm PL070 5321 or 5322," batch number 5101564894, material number 5000358463, and ASIN B07GCNDL91. These markers distinguish the affected cartons from other McCafé products that are not part of the recall.
Timeline and Regulatory Classification
Keurig Dr Pepper initiated the recall on December 6, 2025. The FDA subsequently classified the action as a Class II recall on January 23. According to the FDA classification provided in the recall notice, a Class II recall indicates that use of or exposure to the recalled product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences.
Reason for the Recall and Consumer Guidance
The recall was initiated because cartons and pods labeled as "decaf" may actually contain caffeinated coffee. The issue is described as a labeling error in which full-caffeine coffee was packaged and labeled as decaffeinated. Consumers who are monitoring their caffeine intake for health or dietary reasons are advised not to consume the recalled coffee.
Individuals who have the affected McCafé Premium Roast Decaf Coffee K-Cup Pods are instructed either to discard the product or return it to the place of purchase. Retailers will provide a full refund or a replacement product for consumers who return the recalled K-Cup pods. The recall notice states that consumers are entitled to a refund or replacement for decaffeinated McCafé pods if they choose to bring the affected product back to the store.
