Missing 19-Year-Old Identified as Body Found Near Texas Home
Teen Found Dead Near Texas Home on Tuesday
Authorities have identified a body discovered in a Texas field as that of 19-year-old Camila Mendoza Olmos, who had been missing since Christmas Eve. Officials confirmed the identification on Wednesday.
Investigators found the teen's body on Tuesday while searching a field located approximately 100 yards from her home. The discovery occurred during an active search related to her disappearance.
Medical Examiner Rules Death a Suicide
According to the Bexar County Sheriff's Office, the medical examiner determined that Mendoza Olmos died from a gunshot wound to the head and ruled her death a suicide. A firearm was located at the scene where her body was found.
Sheriff Javier Salazar stated that a firearm belonging to a relative of Mendoza Olmos has been reported missing. Authorities have not yet determined whether the missing firearm matches the one recovered at the scene, and that comparison remains pending.
Timeline of Disappearance on Christmas Eve
Mendoza Olmos had been missing since Christmas Eve. Investigators reported that she was seen on surveillance video on Christmas Eve morning, rummaging through her car before walking out of view. Her family stated that she left without her phone.
Dashboard camera video released this week may show Mendoza Olmos near her home on the morning she disappeared. Investigators believe the footage depicts the college student walking in the area around that time.
Background and Family Ties
Authorities stated that Mendoza Olmos grew up in Southern California and maintains close family ties there. She was born in Ontario and attended elementary school in that city.
Investigative Focus Noted by Sheriff
Sheriff Salazar said that during the investigation into her disappearance, one possibility under consideration was a fear of self-harm. He stated that there were indicators of suicidal ideation and undiagnosed signs of depression associated with the case.
