Teen Sentenced in Omaha Northwest High School Shooting Case

Teen Sentenced for Omaha Northwest High School Shooting

A 15-year-old, identified as Ramone Jefferson, has been sentenced in Omaha, Nebraska, in connection with the shooting at Omaha Northwest High School that occurred in September 2024.

Jefferson was charged in relation to the high school shooting and later changed his plea to “no contest” in October to the charges of second-degree assault and possession of a firearm. Following this plea, a court sentenced him to 14 years in jail for his role in the incident at Omaha Northwest High School.

Reduced Charges and Dismissed Count

Before sentencing, Jefferson’s initial charges were modified. The original charge of first-degree assault was reduced to second-degree assault. In addition, the initial charge of use of a firearm to commit a felony was reduced to possession of a firearm to commit a felony.

A separate charge of unlawful possession of a firearm on school grounds was dismissed. These changes were made prior to the final sentencing decision.

Expected Time Served Under Nebraska Law

Although Jefferson received a 14-year jail sentence, he is expected to be released in less than seven years under Nebraska law. The specific legal provisions governing his early release were not detailed, but the sentence and expected time in custody were confirmed as part of the outcome in the Omaha case.

The sentencing concludes this phase of the legal proceedings related to the September 2024 shooting at Omaha Northwest High School.
