Man Charged After Early-Morning Englewood Incident

A man from south suburban Chicago was charged Monday in connection with a shooting, a beating, and a home invasion that occurred early Saturday morning in the Englewood neighborhood on Chicago's South Side.

According to police, Damien Carter, 44, is accused of shooting and wounding a 39-year-old man, battering a 39-year-old woman, and invading a residence in the 6600 block of South Stewart Avenue. The incident took place early Saturday, and officers placed Carter under arrest approximately 10 minutes later, at 12:26 a.m.

Details of the Allegations and Arrest

Police stated that the shooting, battery, and home invasion occurred inside a home on South Stewart Avenue in the Englewood neighborhood. Following the reported incident, officers detained Carter near the scene within minutes. The 39-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound, and the 39-year-old woman was battered during the episode described by authorities.

Carter, identified by police as a resident of Dolton, Illinois, was taken into custody shortly after the early-morning events. Law enforcement officials indicated that his arrest occurred at 12:26 a.m. Saturday, about 10 minutes after the reported offenses.

Felony and Misdemeanor Charges Filed

Authorities charged Carter with multiple felony counts, including attempted murder, home invasion involving great bodily harm, and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. In addition to the felony counts, police said Carter faces a misdemeanor charge of domestic battery.

Officials reported that Carter was scheduled to appear for a detention hearing in Cook County Domestic Violence Court on Monday.
