Chemical Assault Reported Near Forsyth Park

A woman suffered burns in a chemical assault near Forsyth Park in Savannah, Georgia, just before 8 p.m. on Wednesday. Police stated that the woman was walking around Forsyth Park near West Waldburg and Whitaker streets when a man approached her from behind and poured a chemical on her.

Victim Injured and Hospitalized

Officials reported that the victim sustained burns during the incident. According to information provided to a local outlet, the woman suffered third-degree burns. A photo taken in a hospital in Augusta, Georgia, on Thursday, December 11, 2025, shows the victim, identified in the caption as Ashley Wasielewski, sitting in a hospital bed with bandages after the attack in the Savannah park.

Suspect Sought by Savannah Police

Authorities said the victim did not know the man who attacked her. As of the latest information, police reported that no arrests have been made. On Thursday, Savannah Police released an image of a man dressed in dark clothing whom they are trying to locate in connection with the assault.

Police Investigation and Increased Patrols

Savannah Police Chief Lenny B. Gunther stated in a press release that local authorities are investigating the incident. He said that detectives are working to determine exactly what happened. Gunther also noted that patrols in Savannah parks have been increased out of an abundance of caution.

City Leadership Response

Savannah Mayor Van Johnson issued a statement on social media regarding the incident. He said that city leadership is working to ensure the Savannah Police Department has the resources it needs, including personnel and technology, to bring resolution to the case.
