One Dead, Multiple Injured in Dallas Baby Shower Shooting; Suspect Charged
Fatal Shooting Reported at Dallas Event Venue
A 21-year-old man is in custody following a shooting at a baby shower at Verbazend Creations & Event Venue in the Red Bird area of Dallas over the weekend, where one man was killed and several others were injured.
Victim Traveled From Houston for Family Celebration
Family members stated that 33-year-old Joseph "JoJo" Premeaux traveled from Houston to Dallas on Saturday to attend his niece's baby shower at the Verbazend Creations & Event Venue. Video from the event shows Premeaux laughing with family members shortly before gunfire began inside the venue.
Altercation Preceded Gunfire
Relatives reported that a group of men entered the Dallas event venue after being invited by a guest. According to those relatives, a fight broke out after the group arrived. During the altercation, one of the men shot Joseph Premeaux. Family members said he was shot in the heart while attempting to shield his wife.
Suspect Identified and Taken Into Custody
Police stated that five people were shot during the incident, including the alleged gunman. Authorities identified the suspect as 21-year-old Jesus Torres. He was transported to a hospital for treatment of his injuries and was later booked into the Dallas County Jail on a murder charge.
Casualties and Injuries
Joseph "JoJo" Premeaux died as a result of the shooting at the baby shower in Dallas. His cousin, identified as Hector, was shot in the head. Hector is in a coma and remains in critical condition at Methodist Dallas Medical Center. According to police, the other shooting victims are recovering from injuries described as non-life-threatening.

Authorities have not released additional information regarding the circumstances that led to the altercation and subsequent shooting at the Dallas event venue. The investigation into the incident and the events preceding the gunfire remains ongoing.
