Man killed in early-morning Oklahoma City apartment shooting

Police are investigating a deadly shooting that occurred early Monday at the Brookwood Village apartments in southwest Oklahoma City. Around 1:30 a.m., the Oklahoma City Police Department received a 911 call reporting a shooting at the complex near Southwest 89th Street and Western Avenue. Responding officers arrived at the scene and found a man dead inside an apartment.

Victim identified by Oklahoma City police

The Oklahoma City Police Department identified the victim as 33-year-old Chimei Zounon. Officials confirmed that Zounon was found deceased inside one of the apartments at Brookwood Village when officers entered the unit following the emergency call. Police continued to process the scene for several hours after the initial response.

Witness reports and search for suspects

According to Lt. Jeff Cooper of the Oklahoma City Police Department, witnesses reported seeing several people running from the apartment around the time of the shooting. Lt. Cooper stated that officers are currently looking for those individuals as suspects in connection with the incident. As of the latest update, police said no arrests have been made.

Investigation efforts at Brookwood Village

Police established a large perimeter around the Brookwood Village apartment complex during the investigation. Officers used K-9 units as part of their search efforts in the surrounding area. Crime scene units remained at the complex as investigators worked to gather evidence and determine what happened inside the apartment where Zounon was found.

Authorities request public assistance

The Oklahoma City Police Department is asking anyone with information about the fatal shooting at the Brookwood Village apartments to contact the department’s homicide tip line at 405-297-1200. Officials have not released information about any detained persons and have confirmed that no suspects are in custody at this time.
