Six Militants Killed in Encounters in J&K's Kulgam; Army Responds to Rajouri Attack

On July 7, 2024, the security forces in south Kashmir's Kulgam district achieved significant success with the neutralization of six militants across two separate encounters. These operations, ongoing for two consecutive days, also saw the unfortunate loss of two soldiers in the line of duty. Concurrently, another soldier sustained injuries in a militant attack on an Army camp in Rajouri.

According to Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) R.R. Swain, the encounters in Kulgam's Chinigam and Motergam areas concluded with the recovery of the militants' bodies, marking a pivotal milestone in the anti-militancy efforts. The security forces, comprising the J&K Police and Army, undertook extensive combing operations post-engagement to ascertain the identities and affiliations of the deceased terrorists.

"We are committed to concluding this operation decisively, despite the persistent threat posed by militant activities," remarked DGP Swain, underscoring the ongoing efforts to restore peace and stability in the region.

The fallen soldiers, Lance Naik Pardeep Kumar and Sepoy Pravin Janjal Prabhakar, were honored by top officials including the Chief Secretary and Chinar Corps commander. The Army reaffirmed its solidarity with the bereaved families and vowed to support them in this challenging time.

Meanwhile, in Rajouri's Galuthi area, militants initiated an attack on an Army installation early on July 7, resulting in one soldier sustaining injuries. The retaliatory fire from the Army led to a half-hour exchange before the situation was brought under control. A search operation is currently underway to apprehend the assailants responsible for the attack.

These incidents highlight the ongoing security challenges faced by the armed forces in Jammu and Kashmir, underscoring the resilience and determination of the personnel in safeguarding the region against militant threats.
