Four people were shot Friday evening at a Christmas tree lighting ceremony in Concord, North Carolina, according to city officials. Three victims were reported in critical condition, and one was in stable condition following the shooting.

The shooting occurred during Concord’s 28th annual tree lighting ceremony. The event had been advertised to include appearances by Santa and Mrs. Claus, food trucks, a screening of “The Grinch,” and fireworks. Large crowds were present when shots were fired.
Officials said it was not immediately clear what led to the shooting. Concord police began reviewing video footage from the event and interviewing witnesses. The department asked members of the public to submit any videos or photos that may help the investigation.
Police Investigation Underway
Videos and photos posted online showed crowds fleeing the area and emergency vehicles lining nearby streets. As of the city’s statement, police had not identified any suspects or established a motive. The investigation remained active.

Rep. Mark Harris released a statement on the social platform X, expressing concern for law enforcement officers, first responders, and all individuals at the event.
On Saturday morning, Mayor Bill Dusch announced that the city’s Christmas parade would continue as scheduled in the afternoon. He also confirmed that a planned 5K run would proceed. According to Dusch, additional security measures would be in place for the parade.
Dusch described the parade as one of Concord’s longstanding community traditions. He acknowledged that some families may choose to stay home but said the city would continue with planned events while prioritizing safety.
