Two Taken Into Custody After Traffic Stop Chase Ends in Crash in Chicago

Two people were taken into custody after a late-night crash that followed a failed traffic stop in Chicago’s Grand Crossing community on Sunday. The incident unfolded near the Dan Ryan Expressway, where Illinois State Police reported that a fleeing vehicle collided with other cars before coming to a stop.

According to Illinois State Police, the chain of events began at approximately 9:43 p.m. Troopers were investigating a crash near the intersection of 71st Street and Wentworth Avenue, alongside the Dan Ryan Expressway. While on the scene, they attempted to pull over a Chevrolet Uplander. Instead of complying, the driver of the Uplander fled, running a red light and endangering other motorists.

Moments later, the Uplander struck a Jeep Cherokee that was in traffic and then hit a parked Honda Pilot. The impact caused significant disruption in the area and prompted an immediate police response.

Authorities confirmed that six individuals were inside the Chevrolet Uplander at the time of the crash. After the collision, three people ran away from the vehicle. Two others were taken into custody by Illinois State Police with support from Chicago police officers. Both individuals sustained injuries during the crash and were transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

The whereabouts of the sixth occupant remain unconfirmed, with state police noting that they could not account for that person. The identities of the individuals taken into custody have not yet been released, and no charges were immediately announced.

Witnesses described the sound of the crash as loud and sudden. One bystander reported that police quickly blocked off nearby streets, bringing the situation under control while securing the area for investigation.

Illinois State Police confirmed that no additional injuries occurred beyond those sustained by the individuals inside the fleeing vehicle. The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
